Our
Catholic faith and the
Gospels
call us to be active and
responsible participants in our society. The Catholic Church
has always taken this charge seriously through the many
services it provides to those in need; whether that need
arises from acute poverty, serious illness, or distress in
the family. The Church also continues to offer guidance
through its constant statements on moral and social issues
confronting society. However, the mission of the Church
seems to be challenged constantly in the public square.
Those challenges come in the form of cutbacks in vital
services to the poor and needy, or the imposition of actions
that reflect a moral code contrary to Church teachings and
the well-being of society .
In an
effort to confront these challenges to the mission and
teachings of the Church the Bishops of Connecticut have
created the
Connecticut Catholic Conference Advocacy Network.
The purpose of this
Network is two-fold. First, to help educate and keep
Catholics informed on current social issues. It does this
by sending informational bulletins to its members on various
topics of interest. Secondly, to alert members about
legislative issues which are being considered at the State
and Federal level and are of concern to the Catholic
community.
The
Connecticut
Catholic Conference Advocacy Network
allows you to easily contact
your elected officials through email, so you can share your
opinion with them. The system even identifies who your
elected representatives are if you are uncertain. The
Bishops of Connecticut feel the active participation of many
parishioners in this Network will help the voice of the
Church and its members to be strongly heard in the public
sector.
