SINGLE MOM SUPPORT GROUP

When a woman gets divorced, her standard of living goes down 45%.  Most children live with their mothers; suffering the effects as well.  Only 15% percent of women going through a divorce are awarded any form of court-ordered spousal support.  Less than 50% of the women who claim child support ever receive the full amount.  Single moms have 40% higher incidence of major depression due to increased stresses and decreased social support.  One of our parishioners, Theresa Kasun-Peluso has been a single mom for 10 years and would like to start a single mom support group at our parish for them to come together in prayer and support and to be able to get the word out about the needs of this group of women in our parish.  If anyone is interested please call Theresa directly (917-687-8108).

FATHER NICK’S THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

Father Nick’s Thursday night Bible Study will resume after Labor Day.  Please check the bulletin in late August for the September starting date.

CONNECTICUT BIKE PROJECT

The Connecticut Bike Project, in conjunction with Catholic Charities, will be holding a bike drive in the parking lot of St. Joseph Church on Saturday, October 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Used children’s and adults bikes in good shape are reconditioned and distributed to the poor of Bridgeport through the Urban Center at St. Charles Parish and the Fresh Start Reentry Program.  Adults receiving bikes are either low income, have physical or mental disabilities that prevent them from driving, are ex-offenders and those without driver’s licenses.  Children’s bikes are given to any child who requests one.  It would be appreciated if bikes are not brought to the parish prior to October 2 as facilities are not available to store them.  Bikes may be brought, however, prior to the bike drive to the home of the project organizer, Brooks Sumberg, at 96 Hillspoint Road, Westport (please leave them at the end of the driveway closest to the house).

National Natural Family Planning Awareness Week will be celebrated July 25-31.  The dates of the Natural Family Planning Week highlight the anniversary of the Papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25) which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood.  The feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Mother, on July 26 will also be celebrated.  Our Diocesan NFP Mass, (with Adoration and Rosary for Life) will be celebrated at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010 at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown with Father Ignacio Ortigas as celebrant.

Chris directly.  Monthly payments can be made starting at $25.
