“Catholic
Schools Week started last Sunday with a
wonderful turnout of visitors. Student tour
guides proudly showed off our school, pointing
out the smart boards, lighted microscopes,
computer and science labs, and decorated
classrooms and halls. The primary wing hall was
particularly beautiful, decorated by our younger
students to represent the “Candy Land” game
which the children could actually ‘play’!
This week I
can’t nominate just one ‘person of the week’
because the early childhood educators ‘team’ is
so amazing that all four must be included. Our
two pre-school teachers graduated from SCSU:
Deborah Kraynak has been with us for five years
and taught for fourteen years before that;
Maritza Celini has been here two years. In
addition to their teaching responsibilities they
share maintenance of our school’s newly-designed
web site. Go to
stjoesschoolshelton.org
to see us in
action! Kindergarten teacher Marie Adams has
undergraduate degrees in early childhood
education and child psychology and a Masters
from Sacred Heart; Alfonsina Giammarco, here as
a pre-school teacher for 23 years, is now the
kindergarten classroom assistant and the morning
greeter for the school. She has an Associate’s
in Early Childhood Education. Marie serves on
the board of our Home-School Association and as
co-chair of our ‘Quarters Night’ with Miss
Rossi.
Last Friday
we welcomed a new student from Korea into our
seventh grade, Woo Yeong Kwark (‘Kelly’). We
are happy to have her with us and expect some
other new students to enroll in the very near
future!
Love and prayers,
Arlene
