Privacy

The trust of the community is essential to the success of the Electronic Valley. Therefore, we take concerns regarding privacy very seriously.

(Please note that the following applies to the top-level Web pages of the Electronic Valley, i.e. those bearing the Electronic Valley logo at the top of the page - organizations maintain their own sites, and may have policies differing from ours.)

We collect general site server statistical information from all visitors to the Electronic Valley, both to monitor utilization and for site security purposes. While this information contains such features as the machine (IP) address you are using, as well as the date, time and file(s) requested, it typically cannot be used to identify you on an individual basis.

Those involved in maintaining (i.e. actively posting new/modified information to) the Electronic Valley should be advised that, for security purposes, these posting activities are tracked on a more detailed basis, including user account information.

Persistent client side data ("cookies") are used for some features on the site. At present, these data are only used to provide a "session state" for programming purposes and are not utilized to identify you or your browser beyond a single session.

While this site is a community-wide communications initiative, it is not directed, in whole or part, at children under the age of 13. Certain features of the site (such as subscriptions to our electronic newsletter, or volunteer opportunities and organization site requests) do require the provision of personal information. This is for the internal use of the Electronic Valley and its operators, and will not be disclosed to third parties without your prior express consent, except under extraordinary circumstances, such as a court order. Children under the age of 13 years are expressly prohibited from providing personal information. We strongly recommend parental supervision of children when using this, or any, Web site. For more information on children's online privacy generally and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, please see the FTC's Kidz Privacy site.

This policy is effective April 20, 2000, and is subject to change, particularly as new site features are added.
