Altar Servers at Saint Joseph Parish

The mission of the Altar Server Ministry at Saint Joseph Parish is to provide an opportunity for young parishioners to actively participate in the tradition of Catholic worship.  Altar servers assist the priests and deacons carrying the cross and candles in processions, hold the book for the presider's prayers, assist with setting and removing things to and from the altar table, and serve as role models for participation in the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, blessings, rituals, and other sacred ceremonies.

We welcome all interested parish boys and girls from fourth grade to high school who have already received the sacrament of First Eucharist. Training is generally provided twice a year and consists of two sessions. Once trained, servers are then scheduled for a number of assignments ranging from two to four times during a two-month period. A schedule will be issued directly to Altar Server parents via email.

Please contact the Rectory at 203-924-8611. Remember: serving at Mass puts you nearest to Jesus on the altar!

Servers learn how to play their part in the Mass, from the Entrance Procession all the way to the Final Blessing. Here, three altar servers prepare for the beginning of a School Mass.

During the summer, the servers enjoy a day of fun
at Indian Wells State Park -- and let Father Augustine
know how much they appreciate his leadership
of the Altar Server Ministry at St. Joseph's!
